1  ⁽²²²⁸⁾ Know ye not,⁵⁰ brethren,⁸⁰ (for¹⁰⁶³ I speak²⁹⁸⁰ to them that know¹⁰⁹⁷ the law,)³⁵⁵¹ how that³⁷⁵⁴ the³⁵⁸⁸ law³⁵⁵¹ hath dominion over²⁹⁶¹ a man^{444, (1909)} as long as^{3745, 5550} he liveth?²¹⁹⁸

1  형제들아(brethrenG80) 내가(I speakG2980) 법(the lawG3551) 아는 자들에게(to them that knowG1097) 말하노니(I speakG2980) 너희는 율법이(lawG3551) 사람의 살(he livethG2198) 동안만(as long asG3745, G5550) 그를(a manG444, (G1909)) 주관하는(hath dominion overG2961) 줄(how thatG3754) 알지 못하느냐(Know ye notG50)

1  Or are you ignorant, brothers; for I speak to those who know the Law; that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives?

1  형제들아, (내가 율법을 아는 자들에게 말하노니,) 율법은 그가 살아 있는 동안에만 그 사람을 주관하는 것을 알지 못하느냐?

2  For¹⁰⁶³ the³⁵⁸⁸ woman¹¹³⁵ which hath an husband⁵²²⁰ is bound¹²¹⁰ by the law³⁵⁵¹ to her husband⁴³⁵ so long as he liveth;²¹⁹⁸ but¹¹⁶¹ if¹⁴³⁷ the³⁵⁸⁸ husband⁴³⁵ be dead,⁵⁹⁹ she is loosed²⁶⁷³ from⁵⁷⁵ the³⁵⁸⁸ law³⁵⁵¹ of her husband.⁴³⁵

2  남편 있는(which hath an husbandG5220) 여인이G1135 그 남편G435 생전에는( so long as he livethG2198) 법으로(by the lawG3551) 그에게 매인바 되나(is boundG1210) 만일(ifG1437) 그 남편이 죽으면 남편의 법에서 벗어났느니라(she is loosed2673)

2  For the married woman was bound by law to the living husband. But if the husband is dead, she is set free from the law of her husband.

2 남편이 있는 여인은 그 남편이 살아 있는 한 그에게 법으로 매여 있으나 그가 죽으면 그녀는 그 남편의 법에서 벗어나느니라.

3  So⁶⁸⁶ then³⁷⁶⁷ if,¹⁴³⁷ while her husband⁴³⁵ liveth,²¹⁹⁸ she be married¹⁰⁹⁶ to another²⁰⁸⁷ man,⁴³⁵ she shall be called⁵⁵³⁷ an adulteress:³⁴²⁸ but¹¹⁶¹ if¹⁴³⁷ her husband⁴³⁵ be dead,⁵⁹⁹ she is²⁰⁷⁶ free¹⁶⁵⁸ from⁵⁷⁵ that law;³⁵⁵¹ so that she⁸⁴⁶ is¹⁵¹¹ no³³⁶¹ adulteress,³⁴²⁸ though she be married¹⁰⁹⁶ to another²⁰⁸⁷ man.⁴³⁵

3  그러므로 만일 그 남편 생전에 다른 남자에게 가면 음부라(an adulteressG3428) 이르되(she shall be calledG5537) 남편이 죽으면 그 법에서 자유케 되나니 다른 남자에게 갈찌라도 음부가 되지 아니하느니라

3  So then if, while her husband lives, she is married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress. But if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress by becoming another man's wife.

3  그러므로 남편이 살아 있는 동안에 다른 남자와 혼인하면 간음한 여인이라 불리지만 그녀의 남편이 죽으면 그 법에서 해방되므로 다른 남자와 혼인하더라도 간음한 여인이 아니니라.

4  Wherefore,⁵⁶²⁰ my³⁴⁵⁰ brethren,⁸⁰ ye⁵²¹⁰ also²⁵³² are become dead²²⁸⁹ to the³⁵⁸⁸ law³⁵⁵¹ by¹²²³ the³⁵⁸⁸ body⁴⁹⁸³ of Christ;⁵⁵⁴⁷ that ye⁵²⁰⁹ should be married¹⁰⁹⁶ to another,²⁰⁸⁷ even to him who is raised¹⁴⁵³ from¹⁵³⁷ the dead,³⁴⁹⁸ that²⁴⁴³ we should bring forth fruit²⁵⁹² unto God.²³¹⁶

4  그러므로 내 형제들아 너희도 그리스도의G5547 몸으로G4983 말미암아 율법에G3551 대하여 죽임을 당하였으니 이는 다른이 곧 죽은 자 가운데서 살아나신 이에게(even to him who is raisedG1453) 가서 우리로 하나님을G2316 위하여 열매를 맺히게 하려 함이니라(we should bring forth fruit2592)

4  So, my brothers, you also have become dead to the law by the body of Christ so that you should be married to Another, even to Him raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit to God.

4  나의 형제들아, 이런 연유로 너희도 마쉬악(그리스도H4899)의 몸으로 인하여 율법에는 죽었나니, 이는 너희로 다른 사람, 즉 죽은 자들로부터 일으켜지신 그와 혼인하게 하려는 것이요, 그리하여 우리로 엘로힘(하나님)께 열매를 맺게 하려는 것이니라.

5  For¹⁰⁶³ when³⁷⁵³ we were²²⁵⁸ in¹⁷²² the³⁵⁸⁸ flesh,⁴⁵⁶¹ the³⁵⁸⁸ motions³⁸⁰⁴ of sins,²⁶⁶ which³⁵⁸⁸ were by¹²²³ the³⁵⁸⁸ law,³⁵⁵¹ did work¹⁷⁵⁴ in¹⁷²² our²²⁵⁷ members³¹⁹⁶ to bring forth fruit²⁵⁹² unto death.²²⁸⁸

5  우리가 육신에(fleshG4561) 있을 때에는 율법G3551으로 말미암는 죄의( of sinsG266) 정욕이(motionsG3804) 우리 지체(membersG3196) 중에 역사하여(did workG1754) 우리로 사망을 위하여 열매를 맺게 하였더니

5  For when we were in the flesh, the passions of sin worked in our members through the law to bring forth fruit to death.

5  이는 우리가 육신 안에 있었을 때에는 죄들의 정욕이 율법을 통하여 우리의 지체 속에서 역사하여 사망에 이르는 열매를 맺었으나

6  But¹¹⁶¹ now³⁵⁷⁰ we are delivered²⁶⁷³ from⁵⁷⁵ the³⁵⁸⁸ law,³⁵⁵¹ that being dead⁵⁹⁹ wherein^{1722, 3739} we were held;²⁷²² that⁵⁶²⁰ we²²⁴⁸ should serve¹³⁹⁸ in¹⁷²² newness²⁵³⁸ of spirit,⁴¹⁵¹ and²⁵³² not³⁷⁵⁶ in the oldness³⁸²¹ of the letter.¹¹²¹

6  이제는 우리가 얽매였던 것에G2722 대하여 죽었으므로G599 율법G3551에서G575  벗어났으니2673 이러므로 우리가 영의G4151 새로운 것2538으로 섬길 것이요G1398 의문의G1121  묵은 것으로G3821 아니할찌니라

6  But now we having been set free from the Law, having died to that in which we were held, so that we serve in newness of spirit and not in oldness of the letter.

6  이제는 우리가 붙잡혔던 것에서 죽었으므로 율법에서부터 구제되었으니, 우리가 영의 새로움으로 섬길 것이요 법문의 낡은 것으로 섬기지 아니할 것이라.

7  What⁵¹⁰¹ shall we say²⁰⁴⁶ then?³⁷⁶⁷ Is the³⁵⁸⁸ law³⁵⁵¹ sin?²⁶⁶ God forbid.^{1096, 3361} Nay,²³⁵ I had not³⁷⁵⁶ known¹⁰⁹⁷ sin,²⁶⁶ but¹⁵⁰⁸ by¹²²³ the law:³⁵⁵¹ for¹⁰⁶³ I had⁽⁵⁰³⁷⁾ not³⁷⁵⁶ known¹⁴⁹² lust,¹⁹³⁹ except¹⁵⁰⁸ the³⁵⁸⁸ law³⁵⁵¹ had said,³⁰⁰⁴ Thou shalt not³⁷⁵⁶ covet.¹⁹³⁷

7  그런즉 우리가 무슨 말 하리요 율법이G3551 죄G266냐 그럴 수 없느니라(God forbidG1096, G3361) 율법으로 말미암지 않고는 내가 죄를 알지 못하였니 곧 율법이 탐내지G1937  말라 하지 아니하였더면 내가 탐심을 알지 못하였으리라

7  What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Let it not be said! But I did not know sin except through the law. For also I did not know lust except the law said, You shall not lust.

7 그런즉 우리가 무슨 말을 하리요? 율법이 죄냐? 결코 그럴 수 없느니라. 율법에 의하지 아니하고서는 내가 죄를 알지 못하였으니, 곧 율법이 '너는 탐내지 말지니라.' 하지 아니하였더라면 내가 정욕을 알지 못하였으리라.

8  But¹¹⁶¹ sin,²⁶⁶ taking²⁹⁸³ occasion⁸⁷⁴ by¹²²³ the³⁵⁸⁸ commandment,¹⁷⁸⁵ wrought²⁷¹⁶ in¹⁷²² me¹⁶⁹⁸ all manner³⁹⁵⁶ of concupiscence.¹⁹³⁹ For¹⁰⁶³ without⁵⁵⁶⁵ the law³⁵⁵¹ sin²⁶⁶ was dead.³⁴⁹⁸

8  그러나 죄가 기회를 타서 계명(commandmentG1785)으로 말미암아 내 속에서 각양 탐심을 이루었나니 이는 법이 없으면 죄가 죽은 것임이니라

8  But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, worked in me all kinds of lust. For apart from law sin was dead.

8  그러나 죄가 계명을 통하여 기회를 잡아 내 안에서 온갖 색욕을 일으켰느니라. 이는 율법이 없으면 죄는 죽은 것임이라.

9  For¹¹⁶¹ I¹⁴⁷³ was alive²¹⁹⁸ without⁵⁵⁶⁵ the law³⁵⁵¹ once:⁴²¹⁸ but¹¹⁶¹ when the³⁵⁸⁸ commandment¹⁷⁸⁵ came,²⁰⁶⁴ sin²⁶⁶ revived,³²⁶ and¹¹⁶¹ I¹⁴⁷³ died.⁵⁹⁹

9  전에 법을 깨닫지 못할 때에는 내가 살았더니 계명이 이르매 죄는 살아나고 나는 죽었도다

9  For I was alive without the law once. But when the commandment came, sin revived and I died.

9  내가 전에는 율법없이 살았으나, 계명이 오자 죄는 살아나고 나는 죽었느니라.

10  And²⁵³² the³⁵⁸⁸ commandment,¹⁷⁸⁵ which³⁵⁸⁸ was ordained to¹⁵¹⁹ life,²²²² I³⁴²⁷ found²¹⁴⁷ to be⁽³⁷⁷⁸⁾ unto¹⁵¹⁹ death.²²⁸⁸

10  생명G2222에 이르게 할 그 계명이 내게 대하여 도리어 사망에G2288 이르게 하는 것이 되었도다

10  And the commandment, which was to life, was found to be death to me.

10  생명에 이르게 하는 그 계명이 도리어 나를 사망에 이르게 하는 것으로 판명되었도다.

11  For¹⁰⁶³ sin,²⁶⁶ taking²⁹⁸³ occasion⁸⁷⁴ by¹²²³ the³⁵⁸⁸ commandment,¹⁷⁸⁵ deceived¹⁸¹⁸ me,³¹⁶⁵ and²⁵³² by¹²²³ it⁸⁴⁶ slew⁶¹⁵ me.

11 죄가G266  기회를G874 타서G2983 계명G1785으로 말미암아G1223  나를 속이고G1818 그것으로 나를 죽였는지라 G615 

11  For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me.

11 죄가 계명을 통하여 기회를 잡아 나를 속이고 또 그것으로 나를 죽였느니라.

속이고:  롬_7:8, 롬_7:13; 약_1:22-25

12  Wherefore⁵⁶²⁰ the³⁵⁸⁸ law³⁵⁵¹ is holy,⁴⁰ and²⁵³² the³⁵⁸⁸ commandment¹⁷⁸⁵ holy,⁴⁰ and²⁵³² just,¹³⁴² and²⁵³² good.¹⁸

12  이로 보건대 율법G3551도2532 거룩하며G40 계명G1785도 거룩하며 의로우G1342며2532 선하도다G18

12  So indeed the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and just and good.

12  그러므로 율법도 참으로 거룩하며, 계명도 거룩하고 의로우며 선하도다.

13  Was then³⁷⁶⁷ that which is good¹⁸ made¹⁰⁹⁶ death²²⁸⁸ unto me?¹⁶⁹⁸ God forbid.^{1096, 3361} But²³⁵ sin,²⁶⁶ that²⁴⁴³ it might appear⁵³¹⁶ sin,²⁶⁶ working²⁷¹⁶ death²²⁸⁸ in me³⁴²⁷ by¹²²³ that which is good;¹⁸ that²⁴⁴³ sin²⁶⁶ by¹²²³ the³⁵⁸⁸ commandment¹⁷⁸⁵ might become¹⁰⁹⁶ exceeding^{2596, 5236} sinful.²⁶⁸

13  그런즉 선한 것이G18 내게 사망이G2288 되었느뇨G1096  그럴 수 없느니라(God forbidG1096, G3361) 오직 죄가 죄로 드러나기 위하여 선한 그것으로 말미암아 나를 죽게 만들었으니 이는 계명으로 말미암아 죄로 심히 죄되게 하려 함이니라

13  Then has that which is good become death to me? Let it not be! But sin, that it might appear to be sin, working death in me by that which is good; in order that sin might become exceedingly sinful by the commandment.

13  그러면 선한 것이 나에게 사망이 되었느냐? 결코 그럴 수 없느니라. 다만 죄가 죄로 드러나기 위해 선한 그것으로 인하여 나에게 사망을 이루었으니, 이는 계명에 의한 죄가 심히 죄 많게 되게 하려는 것이라.

그러면:  롬_8:3; 갈_3:13, 갈_3:21

14  For¹⁰⁶³ we know¹⁴⁹² that³⁷⁵⁴ the³⁵⁸⁸ law³⁵⁵¹ is²⁰⁷⁶ spiritual:⁴¹⁵² but¹¹⁶¹ I¹⁴⁷³ am¹⁵¹⁰ carnal,⁴⁵⁵⁹ sold⁴⁰⁹⁷ under⁵²⁵⁹ sin.²⁶⁶

14  우리가( we knowG1492) 율법은( lawG3551) 신령한(spiritualG4152) 줄 알거니( we knowG1492)와 나는 육신에 속하여G4559 죄G266 아래G5259 팔렸도다G4097

14  For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.

14  우리는 율법이 영적인 것인 줄 알고 있노라. 그러나 나는 육신적이어서 죄 아래 팔렸도다.

15  For¹⁰⁶³ that which³⁷³⁹ I do²⁷¹⁶ I allow¹⁰⁹⁷ not:³⁷⁵⁶ for¹⁰⁶³ what³⁷³⁹ I would,²³⁰⁹ that⁵¹²⁴ do⁴²³⁸ I not;³⁷⁵⁶ but²³⁵ what³⁷³⁹ I hate,³⁴⁰⁴ that⁵¹²⁴ do⁴¹⁶⁰ I.

15  나의 행하는 것을 내가 알지 못하노니 곧 원하는 이것은 행하지 아니하고 도리어 미워하는G3404 그것을 함이라G4160

15  For that which I do, I know not. For what I desire, that I do not do; but what I hate, that I do.

15 내가 행하는 것을 내가 알지 못하노니, 이는 내가 원하는 것은 행하지 아니하고 오히려 내가 미워하는 것을 행함이라.

미워하는 것:  롬_12:9; 시_36:4, 시_97:10, 시_101:3, 시_119:104, 시_119:113, 시_119:128, 시_119:163; 잠_8:13, 잠_13:5

16  If¹⁴⁸⁷ then¹¹⁶¹ I do⁴¹⁶⁰ that⁵¹²⁴ which³⁷³⁹ I would²³⁰⁹ not,³⁷⁵⁶ I consent⁴⁸⁵² unto the³⁵⁸⁸ law³⁵⁵¹ that³⁷⁵⁴ it is good.²⁵⁷⁰

16 만일 내가 원치 아니하는 그것을 하면 내가 이로 율법의G3551 선한 것을G18 시인하노니G4852

16  If then I do that which I do not desire, I consent to the law that it is good.

16 만일 내가 원치 않는 것을 행하면 내가 율법이 선하다는 것에 동의하노라.

17  Now³⁵⁷⁰ then¹¹⁶¹ it is no more³⁷⁶⁵ I¹⁴⁷³ that do²⁷¹⁶ it,⁸⁴⁶ but²³⁵ sin²⁶⁶ that dwelleth³⁶¹¹ in¹⁷²² me.¹⁶⁹⁸

17 이제는 이것을 행하는 자가 내가 아니요 내 속에 거하는 죄니라

17  But now it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwells in me.

17  그러나 이제는 그것을 행하는 것은 더 이상 내가 아니요, 내 속에 거하는 죄니라.

18  For¹⁰⁶³ I know¹⁴⁹² that³⁷⁵⁴ in¹⁷²² me¹⁶⁹⁸ (that is,⁵¹²³ in¹⁷²² my³⁴⁵⁰ flesh,)⁴⁵⁶¹ dwelleth³⁶¹¹ no³⁷⁵⁶ good thing:¹⁸ for¹⁰⁶³ to will²³⁰⁹ is present³⁸⁷³ with me;³⁴²⁷ but¹¹⁶¹ how to perform²⁷¹⁶ that which is good²⁵⁷⁰ I find²¹⁴⁷ not.³⁷⁵⁶

18  내 속 곧 내 육신에G4561 선한 것이 거하지G3611 아니하는 줄을 아노니 원함은 내게 있으나 선을 행하는 것은 없노라

18  For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) dwells no good thing. For to will is present with me, but how to perform that which is good I do not find.

18  내 안에 (곧 내 육신 안에는) 선한 것이 거하지 않는 줄을 내가 아노니, 원함은 내게 있으나 선한 것을 어떻게 행하는 것인지는 알지 못하노라.

19  For¹⁰⁶³ the good¹⁸ that³⁷³⁹ I would²³⁰⁹ I do⁴¹⁶⁰ not:³⁷⁵⁶ but²³⁵ the evil²⁵⁵⁶ which³⁷³⁹ I would²³⁰⁹ not,³⁷⁵⁶ that⁵¹²⁴ I do.⁴²³⁸

19  내가 원하는 바 선은 하지 아니하고 도리어 원치 아니하는 바 악은2556 행하는도다

19  For I do not do the good that I desire; but the evil which I do not will, that I do.

19  내가 원하는 선은 행하지 않고 원치 않는 악을 행하는도다.

20  Now¹¹⁶¹ if¹⁴⁸⁷ I¹⁴⁷³ do⁴¹⁶⁰ that⁵¹²⁴ I⁽³⁷³⁹⁾ would²³⁰⁹ not,³⁷⁵⁶ it is no more³⁷⁶⁵ I¹⁴⁷³ that do²⁷¹⁶ it,⁸⁴⁶ but²³⁵ sin²⁶⁶ that dwelleth³⁶¹¹ in¹⁷²² me.¹⁶⁹⁸

20  만일 내가 원치 아니하는 그것을 하면 이를 행하는 자가 내가 아니요 내 속에 거하는 죄니라

20  But if I do what I do not desire, it is no more I working it out, but sin dwelling in me.

20  이제 만일 내가 원치 않는 것을 행하면, 그것을 행하는 것은 더 이상 내가 아니요 내 속에 거하는 죄니라.

21  I find²¹⁴⁷ then⁶⁸⁶ a law,³⁵⁵¹ that, when I¹⁶⁹⁸ would²³⁰⁹ do⁴¹⁶⁰ good,^{2570, (3754)} evil²⁵⁵⁶ is present³⁸⁷³ with me.¹⁶⁹⁸

21  그러므로 내가 한 법을 깨달았노니 곧 선을 행하기 원하는 나에게 악이 함께 있는 것이로다

21  I find then a law: when I will to do the right, evil is present with me.

21  그리하여 내가 한 법을 발견하노니, 그것은 내가 선을 행하고자 할 때 악이 나와 함께 있다는 것이라.

22  For¹⁰⁶³ I delight⁴⁹¹³ in the³⁵⁸⁸ law³⁵⁵¹ of God²³¹⁶ after²⁵⁹⁶ the³⁵⁸⁸ inward²⁰⁸⁰ man:⁴⁴⁴

22  내 속G2080 사람으로는 하나님의G2316 법을 즐거워하되

22  For I delight in the Law of God according to the inward man;

22 내가 속 사람을 따라 엘로힘(하나님)의 법을 즐거워하나

23  But¹¹⁶¹ I see⁹⁹¹ another²⁰⁸⁷ law³⁵⁵¹ in¹⁷²² my³⁴⁵⁰ members,³¹⁹⁶ warring against⁴⁹⁷ the³⁵⁸⁸ law³⁵⁵¹ of my³⁴⁵⁰ mind,³⁵⁶³ and²⁵³² bringing me into captivity^{163, 3165} to the³⁵⁸⁸ law³⁵⁵¹ of sin²⁶⁶ which is⁵⁶⁰⁷ in¹⁷²² my³⁴⁵⁰ members.³¹⁹⁶

23  내 지체 속에서 한 다른 법이 내 마음의 법과 싸워 내 지체 속에 있는 죄의 법 아래로 나를 사로잡아 오는 것을 보는도다

23  but I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin being in my members.

23  내 지체들 속에 있는 또 하나의 법이 내 생각의 법과 싸워 나를 내 지체들 속에 있는 죄의 법에게로 사로잡아 오는 것을 보는도다.

24  O wretched⁵⁰⁰⁵ man⁴⁴⁴ that I¹⁴⁷³ am! who⁵¹⁰¹ shall deliver⁴⁵⁰⁶ me³¹⁶⁵ from¹⁵³⁷ the³⁵⁸⁸ body⁴⁹⁸³ of this⁵¹²⁷ death?²²⁸⁸

24  오호라 나는 곤고한(O wretchedG5005) 사람이로다 이 사망의 몸에서 누가 나를 건져 내랴(shall deliverG4506)

24  O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

24  오, 나는 비참한 사람이로다! 누가이 사망의 몸에서 나를 구해 낼 것인가?

25  I thank²¹⁶⁸ God²³¹⁶ through¹²²³ Jesus²⁴²⁴ Christ⁵⁵⁴⁷ our²²⁵⁷ Lord.²⁹⁶² So⁶⁸⁶ then³⁷⁶⁷ with the³⁵⁸⁸ mind³⁵⁶³ I¹⁴⁷³ myself^{848, (3303)} serve¹³⁹⁸ the law³⁵⁵¹ of God;²³¹⁶ but¹¹⁶¹ with the³⁵⁸⁸ flesh⁴⁵⁶¹ the law³⁵⁵¹ of sin.²⁶⁶

25  I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then with the mind I myself serve the Law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.
