1  From whence⁴¹⁵⁹ come wars⁴¹⁷¹ and²⁵³² fightings³¹⁶³ among¹⁷²² you?⁵²¹³ come they not³⁷⁵⁶ hence,¹⁷⁸² even of¹⁵³⁷ your⁵²¹⁶ lusts²²³⁷ that war⁴⁷⁵⁴ in¹⁷²² your⁵²¹⁶ members?³¹⁹⁶

1  "너희 중에 싸움이 어디로, 다툼이 어디로 좇아 나느뇨 너희 지체 중에서 싸우는 정욕으로 좇아 난 것이 아니냐"

1  From where do wars and fightings among you come? Is it not from this, from your lusts which war in your members?

1    너희 중에 싸움과 다툼이 어디로부터 오느냐? 너희 지체들 속에서 싸우고 있는 너희 정욕들로부터 오는 것이 아니냐?

2  Ye lust,¹⁹³⁷ and²⁵³² have²¹⁹² not:³⁷⁵⁶ ye kill,⁵⁴⁰⁷ and²⁵³² desire to have,²²⁰⁶ and²⁵³² cannot^{1410, 3756} obtain:²⁰¹³ ye fight³¹⁶⁴ and²⁵³² war,⁴¹⁷⁰ yet¹¹⁶¹ ye have²¹⁹² not,³⁷⁵⁶ because ye⁵²⁰⁹ ask¹⁵⁴ not.³³⁶¹

2  너희가 욕심을 내어도 얻지 못하고 살인하며 시기하여도 능히 취하지 못하나니 너희가 다투고 싸우는도다 너희가 얻지 못함은 구하지 아니함이요

2  You desire, and do not have. You murder, and are jealous, and cannot obtain. You fight and war, yet you have not because you ask not.

2   너희가 갈망하여도 얻지 못하고, 너희가 살인하고 갖고자 열망하여도 얻을 수 없으며, 너희가 다투고 싸워도 얻지 못하니 이는 너희가 구하지 않기 때문이라.

3  Ye ask,¹⁵⁴ and²⁵³² receive²⁹⁸³ not,³⁷⁵⁶ because¹³⁶⁰ ye ask¹⁵⁴ amiss,²⁵⁶⁰ that²⁴⁴³ ye may consume¹¹⁵⁹ it upon¹⁷²² your⁵²¹⁶ lusts.²²³⁷

3  구하여도 받지 못함은 정욕으로 쓰려고 잘못 구함이니라

3  You ask and receive not, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it upon your lusts.

3  구하여도 받지 못함은 너희 정욕에다 쓰려고 잘못 구하기 때문이라.

4  Ye adulterers³⁴³² and²⁵³² adulteresses,³⁴²⁸ know¹⁴⁹² ye not³⁷⁵⁶ that³⁷⁵⁴ the³⁵⁸⁸ friendship⁵³⁷³ of the³⁵⁸⁸ world²⁸⁸⁹ is²⁰⁷⁶ enmity²¹⁸⁹ with God?²³¹⁶ whosoever^{3739, 302} therefore³⁷⁶⁷ will¹⁰¹⁴ be¹⁵¹¹ a friend⁵³⁸⁴ of the³⁵⁸⁸ world²⁸⁸⁹ is²⁵²⁵ the enemy²¹⁹⁰ of God.²³¹⁶

4  간음하는 여자들이여G3428 세상과G2889 벗된 것이G5373 하나님의G2316 원수G2189임을 알지 못하느뇨 그런즉 누구든지 세상과 벗이 되고자 하는 자는 스스로 하나님G2316 과 원수되게 하는 것이니라

4  Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever desires to be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

4  너희 간음하는 남자들G3432과 간음하는 여자들아, 세상과 친구 되는 것이 하나님(엘로힘)과 원수 되는 것임을 알지 못하느냐? 그러므로 누구든지 세상의 친구가 되고자 하는 자는 하나님(엘로힘)의 원수가 되느니라.

5  Do ye⁽²²²⁸⁾ think¹³⁸⁰ that³⁷⁵⁴ the³⁵⁸⁸ Scripture¹¹²⁴ saith³⁰⁰⁴ in vain,²⁷⁶¹ The³⁵⁸⁸ spirit⁴¹⁵¹ that³⁷³⁹ dwelleth²⁷³⁰ in¹⁷²² us²²⁵⁴ lusteth¹⁹⁷¹ to⁴³¹⁴ envy?⁵³⁵⁵

5  너희가 하나님이 우리 속에 거하게 하신G2730 성령이G4151 시기G5355하기까지G4314 사모한다G1971  하신 말씀을 헛된줄로 생각하느뇨

5  Do you think that the Scripture says in vain, The spirit that dwells in us yearns to envy?

5  너희는 성경이 "우리 안에 거하는 영이 시기할 만큼 갈망한다."라고 말씀하는 것이 헛되다고 생각하느냐?

6  But¹¹⁶¹ he giveth¹³²⁵ more³¹⁸⁷ grace.⁵⁴⁸⁵ Wherefore¹³⁵² he saith,³⁰⁰⁴ God²³¹⁶ resisteth⁴⁹⁸ the proud,⁵²⁴⁴ but¹¹⁶¹ giveth¹³²⁵ grace⁵⁴⁸⁵ unto the humble.⁵⁰¹¹

6  그러나 더욱 큰 은혜를 주시나니 그러므로 일렀으되 하나님이G2316 교만한 자를G5244 물리치시고G4098 겸손한 자에게G5011 은혜를G5485 주신다G1325 하였느니라

6  But He gives more grace. Therefore He says, God resists the proud, but He gives grace to the humble.

6    그러나 그가 더 많은 은혜를 주시느니라. 그러므로 그가 말씀하시기를 "하나님(엘로힘)께서는 교만한 자들을 거절하시고 겸손한 자들에게 은혜를 주신다."고 하셨느니라.

7  Submit⁵²⁹³ yourselves therefore³⁷⁶⁷ to God.²³¹⁶ Resist⁴³⁶ the³⁵⁸⁸ devil,¹²²⁸ and²⁵³² he will flee⁵³⁴³ from⁵⁷⁵ you.⁵²¹⁶

7  그런즉 너희는 하나님께G2316 순복할찌어다 마귀를 대적하라 그리하면 너희를 피하리라

7  Therefore submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

7  그러므로 하나님(엘로힘)께 복종하라. 마귀를 대적하라. 그리하면 그가 너희로부터 도망하리라.

8  Draw nigh¹⁴⁴⁸ to God,²³¹⁶ and²⁵³² he will draw nigh¹⁴⁴⁸ to you.⁵²¹³ Cleanse²⁵¹¹ your hands,⁵⁴⁹⁵ ye sinners;²⁶⁸ and²⁵³² purify⁴⁸ your hearts,²⁵⁸⁸ ye double minded.¹³⁷⁴

8  하나님을G2316 가까이 하라 그리하면 너희를 가까이 하시리라 죄인들아 손을 깨끗이 하라 두 마음을 품은 자들아 마음을 성결케 하라

8  Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, sinners; and purify your hearts, double-minded ones.

8    하나님(엘로힘)께 가까이 다가가라. 그리하면 그 분께서도 너희에게 가까이 다가가시리라. 너희 죄인들아, 손을 깨끗이 하라. 너희 두 생각을 품은 자들아, 마음을 정결케 하라.

9  Be afflicted,⁵⁰⁰³ and²⁵³² mourn,³⁹⁹⁶ and²⁵³² weep:²⁷⁹⁹ let your⁵²¹⁶ laughter¹⁰⁷¹ be turned³³⁴⁴ to¹⁵¹⁹ mourning,³⁹⁹⁷ and²⁵³² your joy⁵⁴⁷⁹ to¹⁵¹⁹ heaviness.²⁷²⁶

9  "슬퍼하며 애통하며 울지어다 너희 웃음을 애통으로, 너희 즐거움을 근심으로 바꿀찌어다"

9  Be afflicted, and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to heaviness.

9  괴로워하고 애통하며 울라. 너희 웃음을 슬픔으로, 너희 기쁨을 근심으로 바꾸라.

10  Humble yourselves⁵⁰¹³ in the sight¹⁷⁹⁹ of the³⁵⁸⁸ Lord,²⁹⁶² and²⁵³² he shall lift you up.^{5312, 5209}

10  주G2962 앞에서 낮추라 그리하면 주께서 너희를 높이시리라

10  Be humbled before the Lord, and He will lift you up.

10   주(야훼)의 목전에서 겸손하라. 그리하면 주(그분)께서 너희를 높이실 것이라.

11  Speak not evil^{2635, 3361} one of another,²⁴⁰ brethren.⁸⁰ He that speaketh evil²⁶³⁵ of his brother,⁸⁰ and²⁵³² judgeth²⁹¹⁹ his⁸⁴⁸ brother,⁸⁰ speaketh evil²⁶³⁵ of the law,³⁵⁵¹ and²⁵³² judgeth²⁹¹⁹ the law:³⁵⁵¹ but¹¹⁶¹ if¹⁴⁸⁷ thou judge²⁹¹⁹ the law,³⁵⁵¹ thou art¹⁴⁸⁸ not³⁷⁵⁶ a doer⁴¹⁶³ of the law,³⁵⁵¹ but²³⁵ a judge.²⁹²³

11  형제들아 피차에 비방하지 말라 형제를 비방하는 자나 형제를 판단하는 자는 곧 율법을 비방하고 율법을 판단하는 것이라 네가 만일 율법을 판단하면 율법의 준행자가 아니요 재판자로다

11  Do not speak against one another, brothers. He who speaks against his brother, and who judges his brother, speaks against the Law and judges the Law. But if you judge the Law, you are not a doer of the Law, but a judge.

11   형제들아, 서로 비방하지 말라. 자기 형제를 비방하는 자나 판단하는 자는 율법을 비방하고 율법을 판단하는 것이라. 만일 네가 율법을 판단하면 율법을 행하는 자가 아니라 재판관이로다.

12  There is²⁰⁷⁶ one¹⁵²⁰ lawgiver,³⁵⁵⁰ who is able¹⁴¹⁰ to save⁴⁹⁸² and²⁵³² to destroy:⁶²² who⁵¹⁰¹ art¹⁴⁸⁸ thou⁴⁷⁷¹ that³⁷³⁹ judgest²⁹¹⁹ another?²⁰⁸⁷

12  입법자와 재판자는 오직 하나이시니 능히 구원하기도 하시며 멸하기도 하시느니라 너는 누구관대 이웃을 판단하느냐

12  There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you who judges another?

12   입법자는 한 분이시니, 그는 구원하실 수도 멸망시키실 수도 있느니라. 네가 누구기에 남을 판단하느냐?

13  Go to³³ now,³⁵⁶⁸ ye that say,³⁰⁰⁴ Today⁴⁵⁹⁴ or²⁵³² tomorrow⁸³⁹ we will go⁴¹⁹⁸ into¹⁵¹⁹ such³⁵⁹² a city,⁴¹⁷² and²⁵³² continue⁴¹⁶⁰ there¹⁵⁶³ a¹⁵²⁰ year,¹⁷⁶³ and²⁵³² buy and sell,¹⁷¹⁰ and²⁵³² get gain:²⁷⁷⁰

13  들으라 너희 중에 말하기를 오늘이나 내일이나 우리가 아무 도시에 가서 거기서 일년을 유하며 장사하여 이를 보리라 하는 자들아

13  Come now, those saying, Today or tomorrow we will go into such a city and spend a year there, and we will trade and will make a profit,

13  이제 오라, "오늘이나 내일 우리가 어느 성읍으로 가서 거기서 일 년쯤 지내며 사고 팔아 수익을 올리리라." 하는 자들이여

14  Whereas³⁷⁴⁸ ye know¹⁹⁸⁷ not³⁷⁵⁶ what³⁵⁸⁸ shall be on the³⁵⁸⁸ morrow.⁸³⁹ For¹⁰⁶³ what⁴¹⁶⁹ is your⁵²¹⁶ life?²²²² It is²⁰⁷⁶ even¹⁰⁶³ a vapor,⁸²² that appeareth⁵³¹⁶ for⁴³¹⁴ a little time,³⁶⁴¹ and¹¹⁶¹ then¹⁸⁹⁹ vanisheth away.⁸⁵³

14  내일 일을 너희가 알지 못하는도다 너희 생명이 무엇이뇨 너희는 잠간 보이다가 없어지는 안개니라

14  who do not know of the morrow. For what is your life? For it is a vapor, which appears for a little time, and then disappears.

14   너희가 내일 일어날 일을 알지 못하나니 너희 생명이 무엇이냐? 잠깐 보이다가 사라지는 안개니라.

15  For⁴⁷³ that ye⁵²⁰⁹ ought to say,³⁰⁰⁴ If¹⁴³⁷ the³⁵⁸⁸ Lord²⁹⁶² will,²³⁰⁹ we shall⁽²⁵³²⁾ live,²¹⁹⁸ and²⁵³² do⁴¹⁶⁰ this,⁵¹²⁴ or²²²⁸ that.¹⁵⁶⁵

15  너희가 도리어 말하기를 주의G2962 뜻이면 우리가 살기도 하고 이것 저것을 하리라 할것이거늘

15  Instead of you saying, If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.

15  오히려 너희가 "주(야훼)께서 원하시면 우리가 살겠고, 또 이것이나 저것을 할 수 있으리라."고 말해야 할 터인데

16  But¹¹⁶¹ now³⁵⁶⁸ ye rejoice²⁷⁴⁴ in¹⁷²² your⁵²¹⁶ boastings:²¹² all³⁹⁵⁶ such⁵¹⁰⁸ rejoicing²⁷⁴⁶ is²⁰⁷⁶ evil.⁴¹⁹⁰

16  이제 너희가 허탄한 자랑을 자랑하니 이러한 자랑은 다 악한 것이라

16  But now you boast in your presumptions. All such boasting is evil.

16  이제 너희가 자만 가운데 기뻐하고 있으니 그러한 기쁨은 다 악하니라.

17  Therefore³⁷⁶⁷ to him that knoweth¹⁴⁹² to do⁴¹⁶⁰ good,²⁵⁷⁰ and²⁵³² doeth⁴¹⁶⁰ it not,³³⁶¹ to him⁸⁴⁶ it is²⁰⁷⁶ sin.²⁶⁶

17  이러므로 사람이 선을 행할 줄 알고도 행치 아니하면 죄니라

17  Therefore to him who knows to do good, and does not do it, to him it is sin.

17   그러므로 선을 행할 줄 알면서도 행치 아니하는 자에게는 그것이 그 사람에게 죄가 되느니라.
